Dear Supporters,

I’m thrilled to share some exciting news: the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission (PHMC) has officially approved the nomination for a state historical marker recognizing the Kensington Riots of 1844.

This milestone would not have been possible without the incredible public support behind this effort. Your signatures, encouragement, and voices showed just how important this history is to our community.

What’s Next
The marker will now be produced, and we are beginning to plan for a public dedication ceremony. The exact date has not yet been set. PHMC’s standard process could push the event into late 2026 or even 2027, though we are also exploring whether an expedited timeline might be possible. We’ll share more details as soon as they are confirmed.

Stay Connected
We are working toward an unforgettable day of programming. Current plans include a commemorative Mass at St. Michael’s Church, the official dedication ceremony at the marker, and a celebratory community festival with Irish and local music, food, and drinks — or, as the Irish say, good craic. To be sure you don’t miss updates as plans take shape, please sign up here.

Get Involved
The form linked above also gives you the option to volunteer, perform, or partner with us if you’d like to take a more active role in making this day a success.

For now, let’s celebrate this major step forward. The marker has been approved, and thanks to you, the story of the Kensington Riots of 1844 will be remembered for generations to come.

With gratitude,
Kevin
