Place NSA Naples Italy on the burn pit registry

The Issue

Campania Italy, also known as: " The land of fires " and the " Triangle of Death ".

Also known as "Home" for military families who are attached to NSA Naples.

From the Department of Defense, Department of Veteran Affairs website:

"DOD defines an open burn pit as an area of land used for the open-air combustion of trash and other solid waste products. The use of open burn pits, or open-air burn pits, was a common waste disposal practice at military sites outside of the US such as in Iraq and Afghanistan. "

The air quality index is consistently high at NSA Naples. It is very difficult for families, children, and military members to live here. It is well documented that a high AQI leads to cancer, heart problems, skin disease, asthma, and more.

As I see it, there is not much seniority can do about the garbage being burned or the industrial fires at factories that surround NSA Naples. Our complaints continuously go unaddressed because there is nothing that can be done, short of moving the base. There are deep-seated issues at hand. Unfortunately, the families and their health have become collateral damage.

The families living at installation NSA Naples should not be forced to live under these conditions just because they are attached to a military member. Before being shipped off on orders to NSA Naples, families should be provided a proper warning about the living conditions they will experience.

Personally, my family has been negatively affected by air pollution on NSA Naples. Like many, our family was directly assigned to housing on the Support Site for one year. Now that this year is up, I am moving my family an hour away in the opposite direction. Yet again upending our lives. I will be pulling my children out of the DODEA school and homeschooling so that I can minimize exposure to air pollution. Additionally, my husband is being treated for Actinic Keratosis, a precursor to skin cancer.

What I am asking for:
I am asking for the DOD to perform a comprehensive evaluation of the air pollution conditions at NSA Naples. I want the DOD to compare the data of NSA Naples to other sites that have been placed on the Burn Pit Registry. Once the studies have been completed, I want this installation to be considered for placement on the Burn Pit Registry with the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Drop your signature and share with friends and family if you feel that NSA Naples should be considered as a site that should be placed on the Burn Pit Registry.

If you are worried about anonymity, please write your congressperson.
