Combating clothing insecurity: The Sharing Shelf

Combating clothing insecurity: The Sharing Shelf
The Issue
Clothing insecurity has been a prominent problem across America. Without clothes, people lack one of the most important instruments of survival. In times of winter, clothes are as important as a warm, cozy home to impoverished people. Today one of the largest nonprofit clothing bank that combats clothing insecurity in New Rochelle and the Westchester County is The Sharing Shelf.
I'm currently a senior at Iona Prep and I had been volunteering at The Sharing Shelf throughout my junior year. We packaged clothes and other household essentials for families in need. Personally I feel that volunteering gives you a sense of achievement of contributing back to the society and improves your self-esteem. In 2024, The Sharing Shelf had provided clothing to over 7000 children and given almost 2000 backpacks to those in need. Many people's lives were turned around because of the impact of The Sharing Shelf. By volunteering you can definitely make a contribution to the society. This is why I invite you to be a volunteer if you feel like that you want to make change to the world. The Sharing Shelf is actively looking for anybody who is willing to help to fight clothing insecurity. We appreciate any volunteer no matter who you are. If you have a heart willing to help and contribute, then you will be an excellent volunteer!
Currently, the Sharing Shelf needs clothing of all sizes baby through adult in lightly used condition along with diapers, wipes, period products and hygiene kits. For more details please refer to the Sharing Shelf website. If you'd like to make a monetary donation, you can do so here. Any contributions is greatly appreciated and we thank you from the bottom of our heart!
