Organized by Sue Spengler: Celebrate Earth Day with a PEACEFUL PROTEST PROCESSION and PICNIC in the PARK SATURDAY, APRIL 23, 2016 12:00 noon - 2:00 PM (11:00-12:00 sign-making optional) Link to Facebook event which you can post on your feed and invite your friends to attend: https://www.facebook.com/events/1172368462803416/ Hear ye! Hear ye! The time has come for all of us to stand up and defend Strawberry Fields, which is part of North Cheyenne Canon Park, and belongs to ALL OF US! It’s time to SHOW UP and be counted. You are invited! Bring your children, your grandparents, your signs, your passion, your love, your picnic lunch. However, please leave your dogs at home. Thank you. Also: we all are angry about the condescension, the lies, the patronizing, and the backroom dealing, but this is a chance to show how much we LOVE the land, not how much we HATE everything else about this land grab. Schedule: 11:00-12:00: PREPARE: Make signs in S. Cheyenne Canyon Parking Lot. We will bring plenty of posterboard and markers. You can bring your own already made if you prefer. 12:00-1:00: PARADE: Meet up in S. Cheyenne Canon Parking Lot. Parade from parking lot to Strawberry Fields. We will walk from the parking lot to the trailhead on Mesa, walk up the trail, cross the bridge, and enter Strawberry Fields area where the “road” is going to come in. If there are enough people (at least 200 or so), we will walk the approximate perimeter of the 8.5 acres, and make a huge human ring around it. Sing, chant, cheer along the way!! Alternately, we can just walk in a smaller loop, depending on numbers. 1:00-2:00: PICNIC: Have fun! Eat your picnic lunch! Enjoy the view! Hike up into the woods! Meet your fellow caring and concerned citizens! PLEASE be mindful of environment: stay on trails as much as possible and pick up all trash. DO NOT “occupy” the meadow, but instead stay on its perimeter or social trails through it. Suggested Ideas for Signs: Keep public lands in public hands Stop the Swap This is our Cheyenne Canon heritage This Land is OUR land Strawberry Fields Forever We love Cheyenne Canyon The view from here is PRICELESS This is our history and our future Helen Hunt would be rolling in her grave if she knew we were about to lose this. Broadmoor Land Swap is NOT a “win-win” Facts Matter: (then list one or two) EVERYONE should be welcome to picnic here Slow down and listen to the people How about an environmental study first? Is this the right place for yet ANOTHER tourist attraction? Imagine the light and sound pollution from a 100-person event... These are just ideas, please feel free to use your creativity. Keep in mind that the media will be here! And again, we humbly ask: this is about our love and defense of the land, not about the Broadmoor.
