This NY Times article from March still provides the best overview of what Justice Thomas was required to do--and failed to do--to preserve impartiality and avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest.

Again, it is this failure --and not any other issue any of us may or may not have with Justice Thomas's service on the Supreme Court--that is the sole focus of this petition for Holy Cross to rescind his honorary degree.

It's really important to any potential success we may have in this effort to stay rigorously clear about that, including in comments made here.
