Collaborate for Equitable Housing in Ottawa

Collaborate for Equitable Housing in Ottawa
The Issue
We, the undersigned, urge the City of Ottawa to collaborate with residents, community groups, and housing experts to create fair and sustainable housing solutions. With living costs rising and unemployment affecting many, the need for effective action is urgent. Families face mounting challenges, and we believe the way forward includes:
Inclusive zoning reforms: Enable diverse housing options, including affordable developments.
Streamlined approvals: Simplify the process for community-led housing projects.
Transparent decision-making: Engage with the public on land use and development incentives.
Equity assessments: Evaluate the impact of policies to ensure support for those most in need.
These actions align with Ottawa’s vision for a thriving, inclusive community. We call on our elected officials—our mayor and city councillors—to demonstrate leadership through immediate, meaningful, and good-faith action.
If progress is delayed or dismissed, residents will hold decision-makers accountable at the ballot box. Continued inaction may also compel us to pursue remedies through the Ontario Human Rights Commission.
Housing is a human right. Ottawa can and must lead the way in ensuring that every resident has a safe and affordable place to call home.
Let’s rally together—residents, community groups, and leaders alike—against the unforeseen greed and the lack of compassion that has fueled this crisis. By uniting our voices, we can demand fairness, compassion, and meaningful action to ensure that every person in Ottawa has a safe place to call home.
