Eastern Mediterranean Environment Platform Spokesperson Sadun Bölükbaşı attended the 22nd Conference of the Parties (COP 22) of the Convention on the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea against Pollution, held in Antalya, wearing a costume of a sea turtle, which is also the symbol of the conference.

Eastern Mediterranean Environment Platform Spokesperson,  Sadun Bölükbaşı went to the meeting from Adana to explain the struggle in the field;
“If the Sea Turtle can no longer live on those beaches in Adana, it means we won't be able to either. Since we know this very well, we had to bring their identity to the fore, apart from our human identity. We may migrate from one place to another, but sea turtles can only continue to reproduce in the place where it was born. After many years, she has to come back and lay her eggs on the Adana coast. If there are pollutants such as constructions, industrial facilities, thermal power plants that will prevent it from spawning on that beach, it cannot spawn there. We can't be here without them. In this meeting, all the figures are on the sea turtle. We came here to defend our rights," he said.

“We see that the sea turtles that come to the same place every year have not come in the last 3 years. There is a significant decrease. There is pollution throughout the Mediterranean, and there is warming in the water due to climate change. There is a decrease in seagrass meadows in the Eastern Mediterranean region. The nutrient also started not to come to the living area, which was declining” he added.

You can also support the sea turtles to protect their right to life!
