
Aarey forest that is falling into the gradual trap of commercialisation beginning with a metro car shed followed by a metro bhavan, RTO, slum rehabilitation, new film city, etc. does not only come with huge environmental impact but also socio-economical losses.
Whereas the environmental impact include Air pollution, Biodiversity loss (wildlife, agro-diversity), Floods (river, coastal, mudflow), Global warming, Loss of landscape/aesthetic degradation, Deforestation and loss of vegetation cover, Surface water pollution / Decreasing water (physico-chemical, biological) quality, Groundwater pollution or depletion, Large-scale disturbance of hydro and geological systems, etc.
The health impacts include psychological problems including stress, depression and suicide.
There are huge Socio-economical impacts like Displacement, Loss of livelihood, Loss of traditional knowledge/practices/cultures, Violations of human rights, Land dispossession, Loss of landscape/sense of place, etc.
