The Supreme Court and the National Green Tribunal have instructed the State to maintain status quo at Aarey. But blatant violations of this order continue as MMRC contractors have resumed work in the Aarey forest, erecting concrete pillars, filling land and building toilets.
Those of us who are concerned that we might lose our last surviving green patch have been putting out petition after petition to drum up support for Aarey. It has been a long battle but the fight is only going to get tougher because the authorities don’t seem to care either for the environment or the law. We see this destruction of our beautiful aarey, as a tightening of the noose around the neck of a city that is already choking.
Some of the citizens are filing complaints against MMRC at Aarey police station for violating the apex court’s orders. Through this update, we encourage many more of you to come forward and do the same, and force police action, to investigate the matter.
This is a plea to save our city and a forest we are so proud and fortunate to have in our midst.
