“What were you wearing when that happened?”

The number one line that’s being said to almost all rape victims. Which is one of the reasons why some won’t speak up.

Rape is a traumatic experience. There’s no such thing as, “She asked for it!” How would that be a help?

These rape survivors are now taping their mouth shut because they are afraid to be blamed. “It’s your fault, you should’ve done something to avoid it.”

These people are facing extremely difficult and painful emotions and experiences. The effects of the trauma lasts long. Mental effects like Post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, suicidal thoughts or attempts and many more.

They are now damaged and fragile. And with that one sentence of “What were you wearing?”, will just make their situation worse. They will now blame themselves when they are just a victim.

Clothes are not consent. 

No one asked to be raped.
