Dear Supporters,

ITF, ATP, WTA, UTR, NTRP, and USTA. Most of us have no problem telling you what each of these are. Now we have another acronym to familiarize ourselves with: WTN, the World Tennis Number.

Lately there’s been a slew of emails directed at active USTA players letting players know about how the USTA is adopting the ITF-created rating system. It’s an international rating system that USTA match results will feed into to generate your WTN. So far it seems active players will receive a WTN though it’s not clear how it will be used in USTA.

The USTA has been clear that there is no current plan to replace the NTRP system in Adult Leagues. That doesn’t preclude them from adopting it in the future.

Does the WTN prevent the kind of rating manipulation we see with NTRP?  For now, it is too early to say but if WTN does not count all matches played in USTA Leagues, like the USTA does with NTRP for Adult Leagues, the loophole could still exist under the guise of another rating. We still need to make all matches count.

We are still committed to having the USTA close the loophole. We still need your help to do so. Please let your tennis friends know about this petition. For the outgoing and bold, approach players on nearby courts that you don’t know to tell them about the petition. Show them the QR code and they will be directed to the petition when they scan the code with their phone.
