Dear Supporters,

On July 15, The Straits Times reported that SJI International (SJII) has resumed overseas expeditions—despite the fact that the investigation into my daughter Jenna Chan’s death is still ongoing.

📄 Read the article:
Straits Times : SJI International resumes overseas trips amid ongoing probe into student’s death in Maldives in 2024
Jenna was only 15 years old when she died during a school-led trip to the Maldives in November 2024. She was struck by a boat propeller while under the supervision of SJII staff and its appointed vendor. To date, no one has been held accountable.

⚠️ What the Government Has Said:
The Ministry of Education (MOE) gave this official position:

“MOE does not regulate privately funded schools like SJII International. As SJII is a privately funded school that followed its own internal protocols for overseas trips, no further action will be taken.”

This should concern every parent in Singapore.

🚨 Why This Matters:
SJII wrote its own procedures, followed its own rules, and walked away without scrutiny.
MOE will not step in—even when a child has died on an international school trip.
There is no external review of whether SJII’s safety practices were competent, or even enforced.
So while one family buries their daughter, the school moves on.

❗ A Warning to All Parents:
If you’re considering sending your child to SJII or any Privately Funded School (PFS), please understand this:

⚠️ There is no regulator. No oversight. No protection.
If something goes wrong, you are on your own.

✊ What We’re Demanding:
Close the PFS Loophole — No school operating in Singapore should be exempt from safety and regulatory oversight.
Enforce accountability — Self-written procedures are not a substitute for national standards.
Protect our children — No more tragedies hidden behind institutional silence.

Your support is vital. Together, we can hold these institutions accountable and push for meaningful reform.

Thank you for standing with us.
