Earlier this year, the public toilets in Danby were closed for good by Scarborough Borough Council. They now remain boarded up, an eyesore in our pretty village on the North Yorkshire Moors. These toilets WERE regularly used and have been closed purely as a cost-cutting exercise and people, finding the toilets closed, are now using the site behind the toilet block as an open air toilet. Locals are having to put up with seeing people exposing themselves whilst weeing in public and the area being contaminated with human waste. We need these toilets! We are trying to attract tourists to our beautiful area so we have a responsibility to provide basic conveniences for them.

Scarborough Borough Council have allocated £1.8 million to reopen closed public toilets in the Borough but Danby is NOT on the list. Our local councillors, Clive Pearson and Marion Watson have been fighting our corner but the council leader and his cabinet is overwhelmingly made up of Scarborough town councillors and they ignored Clive & Marion and chose to spend the money opening only Scarborough toilets! This is a disgrace and SBC need to be made aware of the anger of locals and how we demand some of this money comes Danby’s way. Share this petition! Let’s get the attention of the Scarborough biased council, stamp our feet and let’s get these toilets re-opened!
