Ashford Borough Council intend to keep the Stour Centre closed until June 2021, to complete renovations to the building.

Should this closure go ahead we will lose a vital community facility and over 100 trained and dedicated members of staff will be made redundant.
 
The decision was made without public consultation and we believe the Council's action is unwarranted. This is because all improvement work and necessary social distancing can be accomplished with the building remaining open to the public.
 
The Stour Centre is much more than just a gym and a swimming pool. It serves the whole community - school children, the elderly, disability groups, heart patients, GP referrals which support both physical and mental health, Ashford Town Swimming Club and so much more.

It is a vital community facility open to all local residents.
 
We urgently need the Council to reverse this decision and vote to keep the building open, so that it may continue to provide these services.
