Thank you all for the ongoing support for the school and welcome to all the new signaturies in the last month.
I have now heard from the Leader of the Council about Brecon's budget deficit basically saying a) I am wrong, the school is in surplus but no explanation of how it went from a new deficit in cabinet paper of £300K to a surplus of £209K in the space of 3 weeks, b) the Freedom of Information statement that first there was a surplus and then a deficit was a mistake, no apology or recognition that the handing out of wrong information in this situation is unlawful and c) the projected deficit by the cabinet of £914K was not a real deficit at all as the school can make cuts, yet the Powys LA consultation document specified the projected deficit as a reason for closing Gwernyfed. The Brecon Head Teacher says he cannot make cuts.
I don't think anyone at county hall has a clue about real position, figures have been so screwed up over so many years no one can work it out.
We are now approaching crunch time as follows:
i) Powys to publish the analysis of the results of the consultation process in respect of Gwernyfed, Brecon, Builth and Llandrinddod HS's on 30 August. The report should appear on the LA website and the school will put it on theirs as quickly as they can.
ii) 8 September the full council to meet to consider the report and recommendations with the latter being published 2 September.
iii) Cabinet to make decision at a meeting at the end of September.
Will keep you up to date.
