Thank you for all your support todate. Powys finally, after a couple of false starts including being several hours late making the consultation document available, finally issued their proposals for the closure of Gwernyfed High School. The full documentation can be found most easily on the Gwernyfed school website: www.gwernyfed-hs.powys.sch.uk In fact it struck me that if the school is to close the IT department at Gwernyfed could offer the LA some training to improve their hopeless website so that it can become 21st Century standard! There is to be a public consultation on 20 April at 6.30pm but it is being ticketed, with tickets to be ordered on line and again you will find a booking button on school website. Why is it being ticketed, you may well ask. Basically the LA started off not wanting a meeting at all, after a school protest they shifted to a small meeting with a represenative sample of the communities and finally they decided they should hold the meeting in the sports hall with two way video links to dining hall and drama studio to enable all present to have the chance to ask a question. There is an upper limit of 900 in total. However, one Powys officer has said that if all three halls are not full then they will know what has been said hitherto about communities being upset at the proposal is untrue and therefore they can ignore us. So folks we need to have what in theatre terms would be "sell out". If you know someone who is unable to use a computer consider booking for them. If tickets become fully allocated and you have not got a ticket I would suggest coming anyway and form a big crowd outside. Parking is likely to be chaotic and Powys are in charge not the school so give yourself plenty of time. If coming by car and you get stuck in a queue, don't turn round and go home, wait to get in, WE NEED YOU THERE. I am sure all of us have strong views on the proposal to close Gwernyfed, however I shall have to resist the temptation to give the LA a verbal pasting all of which the cabinet and officers in a consultation can ignore. On the other hand if every one who speaks asks 2 or 3 difficult questions The LA is obliged to answer, if not on the night, in their response to the consultation. Once the consultation is over the LA will have to publish a full response. Lastly we have a paper petition running alongside the online one and the combined total Has just gone through 2500 and increase of 1220 over the last month, it would be good to get to 3000. Hope to see you on 20th. JOHN FITZGERALD
