Thank you to all those people who have been circulating this petiton and to thos who have recently signed for your support. We still need to keep this going as we have not won the fight yet.
Powys are still confused about their legal obligations so I have written (again) to the council leader in the hope of shifting them further. Below is the letter,
'Since the middle of July your education portfolio holder has said publically a) that the plan to close Gwernyfed HS, agreed by the cabinet on March 24th, has been withdrawn in the light of the content of a pending judicial review; b) that the plan has not been withdrawn and c) in a recent letter “ further discussions are planned with the governing bodies and local members of both Gwernyfed and Brecon High Schools in September - these discussions will, include the future of sixth form provision at both schools. Following this discussion period, draft recommendations will be made to Cabinet – these may be different to those approved by Cabinet on March 24 2015”.
Somewhat contradictory don’t you think? I note the discussions referred to in c) will include governors of Brecon and Gwernyfed High Schools but there is no mention of parents, students, staff or community groups. Your authority has failed totally since March 24 to fulfil its statutory obligations to both schools, students, parents, staff, governors and communities and unless you correct this by direct face to face contact, and follow the proposals in my letter of 31 July, that failure will remain and have a negative effect on any more plans you come up with and your ability to fund them. It’s now time to put this right once and for all'.
