Happy Monday! We need just over 150 signatures to reach our next goal. Please keep sharing. I updated the petition title at the request of one of our signatories, but the link is unchanged.
Did you know that in the 1970s the Cleveland Landmarks Commission offered CPH to designate their theaters as historic landmarks and CPH declined?
Don't get me wrong - I don’t begrudge CPH for declining or for their move. In the 70s CPH knew they needed to renovate and expand. A historic designation can make it more difficult and more expensive to do so. And they needed to sell the space in order to raise funds to renovate and move to the theater in Playhouse Square which we all know and love.
The point is that the City already recognized the cultural significance of the location. Although CPH went on to renovate and then to move, the original buildings behind the new facade remain part of an important historical legacy in Cleveland.
Yesterday, in addition to submitting an application for State and National historic designation, I also submitted a petition to the Cleveland Landmarks Commission.
Thanks for your support!
