It's a sign of the times we live in, perhaps, when your elected representatives require a public prodding from reality TV star on a live radio phone-in to get them to take action on behalf of their constituents. A few days ago, we were told by our local Southall Green ward councillors that there is nothing they can or will do to represent and escalate our genuine health concerns and odour nuisance complaints. Julian Bell, Leader of Ealing Council, meanwhile had emailed us to say he'd written a snail mail letter to the head of the Environment Agency urging urgent action. Yesterday, BBC Radio London presenter Vanessa Feltz felt our's and our children's pain and anguish at being unable to enjoy our homes and gardens, schools and parks, and insisted that the Leader of Ealing Council PICK UP THE PHONE to chase the Environment Agency on his resident's behalf. You can hear that exchange on iPlayer at around the halfway mark, as well as my interview with fantastic roving reporter Greg McKenzie, and then Greg's interview with fellow residents Jan and Angela, right from the start.
