The Issue
Having been a resident of Acocks Green my entire life, I have witnessed our beloved community deteriorate. What was once a vibrant and welcoming neighbourhood has faced challenges that affect every one of us who calls it home. From the increasing number of Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs) overwhelming our area to the rise in homelessness, litter-strewn streets, and issues with drugs, our community deserves better.
The dense clustering of HMOs has put pressure on local resources, leading to an array of problems including overcrowding and parking issues. Additionally, the rise of waste on our streets not only affects aesthetics but also poses health hazards, attracting vermin and diminishing the quality of life for everyone. Equally troubling is the prevalence of homelessness and substance abuse, which goes hand in hand with general disorder and unease among residents.
We can no longer stand by and watch our cherished neighbourhood decline. As concerned citizens, we are seeking a comprehensive plan from our local council to address these growing issues. This includes:
1. **Regulation of HMOs:** Implement stricter regulations and fair distribution of HMOs to prevent overcrowding and ensure tenant safety.
2. **Efficient Waste Management:** Increase funding and support for regular street cleaning services and invest in community recycling programs to tackle litter.
3. **Support for the Homeless:** Establish better support systems and facilities to aid those affected by homelessness, and integrate services aimed at rehabilitation for those struggling with addiction.
4. **Community Involvement:** Foster a community-driven initiative that encourages residents to take pride in their surroundings, involving local businesses and schools in cleanliness and beautification projects.
Our aim is to make Acocks Green a clean, safe, and thriving place for all its residents. This will not only improve our quality of life but also attract new businesses and opportunities to the area. We need your support to drive change and ensure a better future for our community.
