Classroom Cleanliness Counts: Request for Classroom Trash Cans

Classroom Cleanliness Counts: Request for Classroom Trash Cans
The Issue
Imagine sitting in class, focused on an engaging lesson, when you notice candy wrappers, crumpled paper, or snack bags piling up on desks or tucked away in backpacks because there’s no trash can nearby. Some students try to hold onto their trash until they leave the room, but others might resort to leaving it on the floor or stuffing it in corners. This creates an untidy, distracting, and unappealing environment. not to mention it makes life harder for the custodial staff.
We, the students of San Jose Litex Senior High School, believe that every classroom should have at least one trash can to ensure cleanliness, convenience, and a positive learning space.
Why Trash Cans in Classrooms Are Important
1. Encourages Cleanliness and Hygiene
Having a trash can in every classroom allows students and teachers to immediately dispose of waste, preventing litter from accumulating on floors or desks. This reduces the spread of germs and keeps the environment safer and more hygienic for everyone.
Promotes Responsibility
2. When students have easy access to trash cans, they are more likely to take responsibility for keeping their surroundings clean. This simple step encourages good habits that extend beyond the classroom.
Improves Focus and Learning
3. A clean classroom is a productive classroom. Clutter and mess can be distracting and unappealing, negatively impacting the learning experience. A trash can is a small addition that can make a big difference in maintaining a focused, welcoming atmosphere.
4. Without trash cans, litter gets spread across classrooms, hallways, and other areas, creating extra work for custodial staff. Placing trash cans in classrooms helps contain waste and makes their jobs more manageable.
Environmental Awareness
5. With trash cans in classrooms, there’s also an opportunity to introduce recycling bins. This fosters environmental responsibility and teaches students the importance of waste segregation.
We kindly request that the school administration consider placing at least one trash can in every classroom. This small investment will have a significant impact on the cleanliness, comfort, and productivity of our learning spaces.
We believe that this change will benefit students, teachers, and custodial staff, more organized, and respectful school environment for everyone.
