Signing this petition shows our strength in numbers, but sadly, it hasn't been enough to be heard - yet! Clarington Council met on Monday and failed to pass a holding bylaw to protect our airshed.
There is still hope. It's time to pick the phone up and call. Really. It WILL make a difference. We will be heard, when collectively, we all call. Tell Clarington Council how important it is that they act now, right away!
As a democratically-elected local representative, the Mayor, together with the Councillors, have a unique and privileged position – and the potential to make a real difference to people's lives now and for decades to come. How do they know what we want unless we reach out and let them know? Their contact information and phone numbers are broadly published just for that reason (and we'll post them again here - below).
Please reach out to them THIS WEEK, before it's too late, collectively we can work together to stop more garbage from being hauled in from York Region. Stop more contamination of our farmland, the air we breathe, and the foods we grow. Stop more dioxins from entering our airshed. The Government of Canada's website clearly show that “The biggest source of dioxins and furans in Canada is the large-scale burning of municipal and medical waste. “
It also states that “Health effects associated with human exposure to dioxins: certain types of cancer.”*
For us, it doesn't matter what type of cancer it is. Cancer is cancer. Let our local officials know. Call Mayor Foster and all the Councillors THIS WEEK! PLEASE!
