Clarington Council needs our support! They have said "NO" to adding more at the Durham York Energy Centre, that currently burns the garbage from Durham AND YORK Regions, 24/7.
Durham Region is not listening. Why would they? They 100% own the Durham York Energy Centre – along with York Region. It makes money for them. They haul garbage in by the truckload from all over Durham and York Region, burn it, and profit from it.
We have no idea if it is safe now, or will be in the future. Durham Region intends to build more despite previous reports that show cancer-causing toxins are produced and have surpassed safe levels.
When you go to the Durham York Energy Centre's website, they have a page that says they monitor the air quality, yet they say," Data has not undergone final verification or complete quality control and quality assurance procedure; therefore, this data should not be used in published documents. "
Why is the air quality not regulated and not available for public viewing?
Newspapers have reported on it, and they have been privy to the air quality results, stating, "emissions from one of the two boilers at the plant exceeded the limits set by the Ministry of Environment for dioxins and furans by almost 12 times."*
It's time to stand up and speak up. We want a full environmental assessment and transparency. How is this affecting our livestock, our fields of corn and other vegetables, and especially our health?
