Clarification on Wrong Practice of Marking Students Present During Exam Leave and Holidays

Clarification on Wrong Practice of Marking Students Present During Exam Leave and Holidays
The Issue
If not me then who, if not now then when ?
Lets be the change we want to see in others
As a concerned parent whose child is a student at Elpro International School, Pune, I find it alarming and disturbing how the school marks students as 'present' during exam leave and even after final exams during the March 2025 holidays from 14 Feb to 12th March 2025 (only 5 days we exams during period for Grade 2) a period which ought to be earmarked as leave or holiday. What's troublesome is the impact this practice might have on overall attendance records and potentially student wellbeing.
This irregularity lacks transparency and falls out of line with ideal educational practices. It is not common practice for schools to mark 'present' when students are on exam leave or post final exams. In fact, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) guidelines clearly state that attendance should not be recorded during designated school holidays (reference from: CBSE Bylaws).
Furthermore, this issue isn’t simply about attendance, but more so about trust and transparency between the school and parents. This trust is shattered when such inconsistencies occur without any explanation or justification. As parents, it is our responsibility to ensure that our children are learning in a fair and transparent environment. Such arbitrary marking practices do not instil the necessary reliance we need to lay on the school's functioning.
We, therefore, call on the administration of Elpro International School, Pune to provide an unmistakable explanation for this practice and to align any such practices with recognized education norms, honouring the faith we've bestowed upon them as caregivers to our children.
Join us in calling for this vital change, and help us set a precedent for greater transparency and truthfulness in the way our educational institutions operate. Please sign the petition.
