Nearly 2 weeks ago an overflowing manhole was reported in Clifton Road. The problem was traced to a nearby pump station which proved difficult to repair. Sewage was flowing into the stormwater drains and thence into the vlei. Last Monday test were done in the water of the vlei, but they were apparently "compromised" and had to be re-done. The results only came out yesterday, just too late to interfere with the canoe marathon taking place on the vlei over the weekend. Today an order has been posted declaring the vlei closed to safeguard members of the public because of compromised water quality.
