I have finally received an acknowledgement to my third email on Friday. The City says they are preparing a response to the petition. We await to see what they say.

Meanwhile the waterways all over Cape Town have become infected - the vlei at  Milnerton, Cape Town Harbour where fish were dying, Zeekoevlei, as well as Zandvlei. It is time the city authorities got a grip.

The point is that it is not just about the vlei and the life in it. Cape Town is the exceptional city that it is precisely because of its extraordinary geographical features - the mountain, the streams, the vleis, the beaches and the seaside. It is this that makes Cape Town such a successful city. It is this that drives the economy in so many ways. If we kill the waterways and the vlei if we allow the birds and the  fish to die, we will kill the city. So saving the vlei is about saving the city, it is about saving people's livelihoods and jobs. And yes in the end it is about saving ourselves.
