City of Winchester - NEW Events and Promotion Director Job Position

City of Winchester - NEW Events and Promotion Director Job Position
The Issue
The City of Winchester is in the process of hiring a new "Events and Promotion" coordinator for downtown Winchester. Although a multitude of downtown business owners and building owners appeared before City Commission in July, opposing the program in its entirety (formerly known as Main Street Winchester), the City of Winchester not only has elected to pursue this new direction, they are doing so with little conversation with the very businesses this position is intended to facilitate. Additionally, the new position will increase its salary by $10,000 for a total of $50,000, plus benefits. As a comparable, the beginning salary for firefighters is only $37,000.
In addition, the City denied a request to postpone the upcoming second reading in order to facilitate attendance by business-owners. (Typically meetings are held at 5:30, however this meeting is scheduled for 10:30a.)
This is yet another unrepresented City action, whose forced implementation without any level of feedback reveals a likely ulterior motive: that the City "knows best" and will continue the path, regardless of obvious and overwhelming opposition.
Please sign this position in opposition of this direction and assist in stopping the continued waste of governmental resources.
