URGENT ACTION CONTINUES!

The public hearing for rezoning RS is held over to today, Tues. Sept.19 at 1:00 pm with speaker #40 of 78. If you missed your turn you can still speak at the end.

The RT rezoning hearing will continue after that.

Your letters to the city and attendance at the public hearing is urgently needed. The city counts number of speakers and emails for or against. Currently development lobby groups have many emails to city and speakers in support. We need you to take action now!

This public hearing is for rezoning across the city that will increase demolitions of character houses. There has been no public consultation on these proposed rezonings.

Meeting agenda is posted here. You can see how many emails are for or against.

Speak to council: It is still possible to speak to these items. Speakers who missed their turn for RS zones can come at the end of the hearing when the chair asks if anyone else wants to speak to this item. Or email to  publichearing@vancouver.ca to request to speak to the RT item below.

There are two reports and each requires separate emails and request to speak must specify each.

A.) Rezoning all RS (single detached) to duplex, allowing up to 4 units per lot. This includes new outright development for 2 strata duplex units and 2 secondary suites or 2 lock off units (with waived onsite parking requirements). There has been no public consultation process. It undermines all neighbourhood-based planning and increases incentives to demolish character houses. Report is here.

Letters to Council: Emails still accepted up to 15 min. before close of hearing.

Please send emails, even with one line to say you are opposed.

Re: Rezoning all RS zones - public hearing

Some additional reasons may be:

- no public consultation & overrides community plans
- incentivises demolition of character and heritage houses
- has no disincentives for demolition like RT zones
- undermines character house incentives for retention
- reduced minimum onsite parking for new builds

B.) Rezoning Kitsilano's RT7 & RT8 (character house retention duplex zoning) to a new RT5 zone that allows more infill units, multifamily development and  makes it easier to demolish character houses while gutted design guidelines. This affects the area east of Alma St. and north of Broadway, as well as an area west of Arbutus. Again, no public consultation. Report is here.

Letter Re: Rezoning Kitsilano RT7/RT8 & Cedar Cottage RT10 - public hearing

Please send emails, even with one line to say you are opposed.

- no consultation with communities affected & overrides community plans
- incentivises more demolition of character and heritage houses
- current RT zones are much better than the RT5 and RT11 they would be replaced with

Send your two emails to:

publichearing@vancouver.ca; gregor.robertson@vancouver.ca; clrdegenova@vancouver.ca;  adriane.carr@vancouver.ca; elizabeth.ball@vancouver.ca;  george.affleck@vancouver.ca;  andrea.reimer@vancouver.ca; heather.deal@vancouver.ca;  kerry.jang@vancouver.ca;  raymond.louie@vancouver.ca;  tim.stevenson@vancouver.ca; hector.bremner@vancouver.ca
