NEWS: Governor Reynolds has lifted Pool Restrictions! Contact your City Officials ASAP!

Dear supporters,
We are pleased to share the most recent update from the Governor's office regarding the opening of public pool facilities:

“The Proclamation of Disaster Emergency signed by Governor Reynolds on 6/10/2020 allows all pool facilities to re-open effective at 8:00 am on June 12, 2020. Further guidance will be posted once we have it.” -Iowa.gov (state website)

“The governor said swimming pools and senior centers may reopen as well so long as they follow recommended health measures. Previously, swimming pools in Iowa were only allowed to conduct lessons and lap swimming.“ - KTIV News

Some local communities have committed to opening upon lifting of these restrictions: Iowa Falls, Jewell, Altoona, Ames Municipal Pool, Coralville, Adventureland Bay, Lost Island Water Park, Jefferson, Stratford, and more that are not listed. Ankeny is still to make a decision.

More details are to follow from the state regarding specific guidelines but overall the Governor has been very flexible and is leaving decisions up to the community leaders.

This is where YOU come in. The City Administration made the decision to close for the season on May 19th. After hearing from community members on June 1st they held firm to their decision due to two primary factors: Safety and Fiscal Responsibility. Please contact city council leaders urging them to reconsider their decision and instead to open under the Governor’s current restrictions. There is a lot of summer left, and maybe the city leaders will reconsider if the demand is high enough.
