VERY IMPORTANT NEW DEVELOPMENT – THE WATERSHED HAS DECIDED TO WITHHOLD SUPPORT OF THE CURRENT CITY PROJECT UNTIL THE EROSION PROBLEM CAN BE STUDIED AND THEY BETTER UNDERSTAND HOW BIG A SOLUTION IS REALLY NEEDED.
PLEASE COME OUT AGAIN TO THE COUNCIL MEETING THIS TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17. IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE!
The Watershed voted last week to withhold support of the LHL project until a study can be conducted this spring/summer to “determine the actual amount of erosion and how big the solution needs to be.”
In addition, Mayor Simonson and Councilman Hegland have repeatedly brought up concerns that this project, with a price tag now estimated to be over $340,000, may well be much more expensive and invasive than what is required to address erosion and water quality. They are listening to your overwhelming response to this project: LEAVE THE LANDING AND THE ROAD BOTH RUSTIC AND INTACT – DO THE MINIMUM.
Your EMAILS and ATTENDANCE at these meetings are making a TREMENDOUS DIFFERENCE!
KEEP SPEAKING OUT - MORE EMAILS WILL HELP! The City has received over 50 emails and it has made an impression. Public opposition to modernizing this road/landing was cited at the Watershed meeting.
ATTEND THE TUESDAY 2/17 MEETING (7:00pm at the Scandia Community Center) – IT WILL HELP!
THE COUNCIL MEETING – We encourage respectful attendance of the meeting. The Council will need to decide how to respond to the Watershed’s decision. A ROOM FULL OF CONCERNED CITIZENS will show support for a study/evaluation and demonstrate the community’s continued interest in protecting Log House Landing from over-development.
EMAILS – To those of you who have written: THANK YOU; please write again! And those who haven't: NOW IS THE TIME; please weigh in, your voices will continue to make a difference!!
Please let the Council and Planning Commission know that you appreciate their decision to keep the road narrow. It was the right decision for this historic and rustic National Park setting, but ask them to go further and to use a more natural road surface and water treatment solution. Ask them to hold-off until the size of the problem is determined. Ask them to consider less impactful solutions.
Asphalt, Curb and Gutter do not belong at this site!
