City of Santa Fe; Preserve and Safeguard Our Local Parks

City of Santa Fe; Preserve and Safeguard Our Local Parks
The Issue
Our parks should be mowed regularly - they are not - but they also need so much more care and attention.
I was born and raised in the beautiful city of Santa Fe, New Mexico - a city with a rich history and stunning landscapes. This petition has strong personal roots for me, as one of our local parks is named after my late grandfather, Gen. Franklin E. Miles, who was dedicated to creating a community with spaces for all of us to enjoy. This treasured space now holds countless memories of joy, laughter, and togetherness for many people.
Unfortunately, in recent years, I've noticed a lack of upkeep and safety measures in our parks. This has left fields that can’t be played due to overgrown weeds, gopher holes, and trash. We owe it to our community, and to the memory of my grandfather and others like him, to ensure these parks remain maintained, updated, and safe. The parks serve as vital spaces for community engagement and environmental preservation.
Keeping city parks safe and well-maintained can significantly improve residents' quality of life positively impacting physical and mental health while contributing to the local economy and fostering community cohesion. The Trust for Public Lands maintains that, "[a]ccess to nature and the outdoors—close to home, in the cities and communities where people live—is a matter of health, equity, and justice."
I call upon our Santa Fe City Council to prioritize the maintenance and safety of our parks, ensuring they remain inviting, safe, and integral parts of our community. By signing this petition, you're helping preserve the beauty and history of Santa Fe, honoring the legacy of past contributors like my grandfather, and investing in the health and well-being of our community.
Please join in our effort to preserve the historical treasures of our city by signing and sharing this petition.
