Stop blatant discrimination on City of San Jose's property

The Issue

Blatant discrimination, are you for it or against it?

Kassim Kadiro, Hewan Ayele, and Abraham Teferi have been systematically harassed, discriminated against, and banished from Christmas in the Park; yet the City of San Jose has turned a blind eye. After 30 years of participation, the unjust exclusion from Christmas in the Park and the unfair relegation of their lucrative business to other venders has resulted in a substantial economic loss and mental anguish.

Why should you care?

  • because for nearly 30 years Kassim, Hewan, and Abraham, as the only black vendors, have been upstanding participants at San Jose City’s Christmas in the Park; however they have been banished  from Christmas in the Park without just cause.
  • because there is blatant and systematic discrimination taking place in the plaza dedicated for an activist who fought for justice, Mr. Cesar Chaves.
  • because weeks and months have gone by in which the City of San Jose: Mayor Sam Liccardo and Councilmember 1, District 3 Raul Peralez have been incapacitated from taking concrete action to remedy this injustice.
  • because for Kassim, Hewan, and Abraham being vendors at Christmas in the Park is their livelihood.
  • because as stated by MLK Jr. "Injustice anywhere is a threat to injustice everywhere."

 What do we want? JUSTICE

We stand lifting our voices in unison as we fight for a fair, inclusive, transparent, and non-discriminatory Christmas in the Park.

We stand lifting our voices because systemic, culturalized, and legalized mistreatment and inhibiting the inclusion of blacks or any other groups is intolerable.

We stand lifting our voices and beseech the City of San Jose: Mayor Sam Liccardo and Councilmember 1, District 3 Raul Peralez to cease ignoring the discrimination taking place on San Jose City’s property, intervene now.

Mayor Sam Liccardo and Councilmember 1, District 3 Raul Peralez, blatant discrimination on San Jose City’s property, you are either for it or against it.
