Hey everybody! Hope you are all having a good morning. I know it has been a while since you last heard from me, but this is a slow process and I hope you understand that. I am not putting this on the back burner, it is just going to take a while for things to get in order. So, on the 3rd of December, I spoke with the Commissioner of Community Services for the City of Whitby. They seemed interested in getting this done, BUT they do not want to fully fund it (whack). Similar to what the City of Oshawa wants, the City of Whitby is looking for "sponsors" or 3rd party investors because they feel like it is too big of a risk to open a park. What I find hard to work with is the council members from both cities that I have spoken with have been pushing all of this stuff back in my lap. They are asking me to fund this and insure this which I have been repeatedly saying is not possible for me. The whole reason I came to the city with this in the first place is because I feel like they should be funding this because Skateboarding, BMXing, and Scootering are all very popular all across Durham Region. The thing is, the people from the City do not participate in these sports so that is why they find it " a risk". If they were attending Skateparks daily across Durham Region, they would know how popular our sports are and how important it is to get an indoor park for us skaters and fellow bmx/scooter riders. So, I have been reached out to by an investor who has located a spot with a huge amount of space, he is currently awaiting insurance quotes. Since then, I have also been contacted by a second person who is interested in helping invest a lot of money for this indoor skatepark. Having said that, nothing is set in stone. I am not saying that right now we will have an indoor skatepark FOR SURE, but we are getting closer and closer to reaching our end goal. I will say it a second time so this doesn't get confused, this is NOT FOR SURE HAPPENING JUST YET. The wheels are in motion, we just have to continue playing this waiting game. The amount of people DM'ing me thanking me about doing this for the community is absolutely incredible and I appreciate each and every one of you.
