The Issue

We support the City of Inglewood building an outdoor roller skating rink for public use to benefit the health, recreation, and culture of the community in Inglewood.

What is needed: The Inglewood community needs a safe and dedicated space for roller skating. Rogers Park, an existing city park, is an ideal place to pave an outdoor roller skating rink.

Why it is needed: There are many roller skaters with nowhere to skate. There is not a dedicated roller skating rink at any of the Inglewood parks. City parks are designed to provide the public with recreational resources, and here is the perfect opportunity to do so. There are not any private roller rinks within 25 miles of Inglewood, so locals are looking for a skating outlet. Private roller rinks are also not accessible to many because of the prohibitive cost.

Skating on tennis courts, basketball courts, uneven paths with cracks, or in dangerous parking lots with traffic is not an acceptable alternative for skaters. Sharing facilities is also not fair to the displaced basketball players, tennis players, and other park users.

There has been an increasing number of roller skating sessions and events, of increasing popularity all across the city in the past years. Roller skating also has deep roots within the city that extends to musical artists, dancers, celebrities and athletes.

An outdoor roller skating rink would provide accessible family-fun, community classes, fitness opportunity, mental health outlet, and be a reflection of the vibrant and creative culture of Inglewood residents.

Request: We propose that the City of Inglewood re-purpose an already existing space at Rogers Park into an outdoor roller skating rink. The children’s wading fountain area at Rogers Park, behind the community center, and in-between the playground and the skate park has been fenced and closed for many years. This area would better serve the community if re-paved for roller skating. Other amenities such as benches, shade, and lighting would provide the skaters with a great space to fulfill Inglewood’s motto as “The City of Champions”.

Who We Are: Inglewood Rink Unites is a neighborhood group formed to advocate for the installation of a public outdoor roller rink in Inglewood, CA. Signatures collected will show support for the rink and will be presented as part of a formal proposal to the Inglewood City Council.

"Skating has truly been our saving grace."

What started as 3 sistas roller skating in The Forum parking lot has turned into a beautiful TRIBE of like-spirited individuals UNITING for a common cause...to skate and be merry!

After being displaced from the Forum parking lot, we moved to the basketball courts at Rogers park, where we quickly found a wide range of skaters joining us.

Children, seniors, first-time skaters, and skaters of over 30+ years have found common ground to skate together for exercise, mental health, and spiritual connection.

Now that basketball has resumed at Rogers Park, we have been displaced again and are faced with not having a place to skate. This is the reason for this petition. Thank you for your support!

With Love,
