To all: Three speakers were given 41 minutes with plenty of questions to talk about LED street lighting. The first speaker was petition signer Jonathan Day who is a lawyer who noticed a street light on the next block and became concerned. He is quickly learning about lighting and has been great at finding documents from other cities that have improved their lighting as well as looking at the tariff agreement here and arranging to talk to CenterPoint Energy. Then I spoke and afterward we had a surprise visit from Bill Wren of McDonald Observatory well known for his efforts to keep the skies dark in West Texas while dramatically improving the quality of oil rig lighting in that area. He made a special trip just to be here and support our effort. After he spoke, I think we had everyone on board including Mayor Turner to at least look into better options for Houston's street lights. After finding the Public Comments section with the forward arrow if needed, our discussion is from 37:50 to 78:20 in the video below. Jonathan Day is spreading the word in his greater neighborhood around the Heights and he was already approached by someone at the meeting who also wanted to write the Council for us.
