Dear Residents of the Park District of Highland Park:
The Park District of Highland Park was recently informed by the City of Highland Park that the City's lease to the Park District for the south portion of Park Avenue Beach, which is where the Yacht Club building and boat ramp are located, will not be extended for public use after May 31, 2015. The Park District was further informed that this decision comes as a result of the City's effort to enhance security by limiting public access around the water treatment plant located at Park Avenue Beach.
Because of these recent developments, the Park District is in the process of creating contingency plans which include relocating our non-motorized boating operations to the north side of Park Avenue Beach onto property that is not subject to the City's lease. The Park District will be discussing these operational and logistical issues at our upcoming Board of Commissioners meeting on Tuesday, September 23, 2014, at 6:00 p.m. at West Ridge Center (636 Ridge Rd.), and we invite the public to attend and participate.
For questions regarding the Park District's boating operations, please contact our Executive Director, Liza McElroy, at lmcelroy@pdhp.org or 847-579-3108. For questions regarding the water treatment plant and security, please contact the City Manager's office at 847-926-1000.
