This petition requesting that Cornwallis Street be renamed in honour of Burnley "Rocky" Jones was read in City Hall on September 18, 2018. Thank you for your support. However, almost two years later, there has been no concrete action from the Municipality to change the name. It's important to understand that while we cannot change history, it is possible to choose the people we honour. Rocky Jones served as a champion for Mi'kmaq and African Nova Scotian human rights for decades. Meanwhile, Cornwallis perpetuated acts of genocide against the province's Indigenous population.
At this time we again need your help to push Halifax Regional Municipality to take concrete action on the renaming. The proposed Rocky Jones Blvd straddles the boundaries of both Lindell Smith and Waye Mason's wards. Please take a moment to write an email, make a phone call or write a letter to elected officials:
