As expected, the City of Dallas is appealing Judge Greenberg’s decision to allow us to proceed in our fight for Rusty’s life. This means yet another lengthy delay as the case moves through the appellate process. Dallas Pets Alive has continually offered the City of Dallas a positive solution that meets the needs of all parties. While we remain ever hopeful we can reach a long overdue agreement on this matter we did expect the City to appeal this ruling as they did the prior ruling. What we cannot understand is the City’s persistent determination to kill Rusty when a peaceful solution is available. Unfortunately this delay means Rusty remains in a kennel at Dallas Animal Services, where today marks the end of his third month of incarceration. On a positive note, we have heard that Rusty remains in good spirits as he waits at Dallas Animal Services. We truly appreciate the staff at Dallas Animal Services and are thankful for everything they have been able to do to care for our Rusty. We are glad he is doing well and will continue in our unwavering fight against the City of Dallas and their mission to kill Rusty. We also want to ask you to continue to contact your elected officials (including City Attorney, Larry Casto: 214.670.3738; Larry.casto@dallascityhall.com) and urge them to allow Rusty to go to a sanctuary rather than be killed. We especially urge you to contact every City Council member - as a group they have the ability to order that Rusty be allowed to go to a sanctuary and it is time they all be required to state their position on this issue. Larry Casto said the below when discussing Lamby’s case and the subsequent positive outcome that the City Council eventually agreed to. We feel that having the community remind Mr. Casto of his previous statements in regards to Lamby’s case will carry weight when reaching out to him about Rusty, so please feel free to include his previous quotes in your correspondence with him. · “The overriding objective is to protect the public's health and safety, period. In this case, if that end can be achieved by a means other than euthanizing an animal, we will consider it." – Larry Casto speaking on Lamby's case to the Dallas Morning News · “I'm pleased with the outcome, maybe in the future we have helped establish a process that can be used on the front end before we have to get all the damned attorneys involved." – Larry Casto speaking on Lamby's case to the Dallas Morning News We do extend our thanks to Council Members Omar Narvaez and Adam Medrano for their continuing efforts on Rusty’s behalf. They have advocated for Rusty since the beginning and continue to do so. This issue is NOT going away and the citizens of Dallas deserve answers from their elected officials about their position and their willingness to expend untold City resources both in manpower and financially on this fight. As always, please remember to remain positive in your advocacy for Rusty. #RescueRusty
