Today we finally got 400 signatures!

WHAT THIS MEANS

I will send the updated list of signatures again to Councillor Alice Campbell of Hindmarsh Ward in the City of Charles Sturt and to the Public Transport Projects Alliance to show the continued growing support for this community need.

400 signatures an especially great outcome as this campaign has been driven by word-of-mouth – by YOU.

Imagine what the signature count would be if we reached every skater or rider who does or wants to skate/ride vert in Adelaide?

I suspect we’d get several thousand signatures, but alas, this is volunteer run and has no financial backing.

In the planning days I only thought we’d get 150 signatures, and a close contact of mine said I was wrong, and we’d get 500 signatures.

That figure is looking a lot more achievable now!

Which leads me to…

MY REQUEST OF YOU

We only need another 92 signatures to get to 500 and the easiest, quickest and cheapest way to do this is via word-of-mouth.

Like I said above, we got to 400 via word-of-mouth and there is no reason why we can’t get an extra 20% the same way!

According to Columbia University, 472 contacts is the median number of contacts a person has.

If we round that number of personal contacts down to 400 and multiply that by 400 signatures, we get 160,000…

What does this mean?

If all 400 people who have signed this petition share it again, that is a potential of 160,000 people seeing the petition.

That is more than 10% of Adelaide’s population!

All reached by sharing this one link: https://www.change.org/VertSnotDead

And it only costs you a few seconds.

Yes, yes, yes, you have likely shared that link before (thank you!), but there is MUCH value in sharing it again, and again…

FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE UNAWARE

Some people may just not have seen it the first time you shared it – things get lost in social media feeds and email inboxes!

If you share the link (https://www.change.org/VertSnotDead) again, maybe it is this time that someone new sees it for the first time.

FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE AWARE BUT HAVE NOT TAKEN ACTION

Albert Einstein is widely credited with saying, “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.”

That is likely true, but in marketing, research shows on average people need to see/hear/consume a message or request 8 times before they act on it.

This because someone may already know about the petition, but have yet to sign it – people are busy, people forget and so on.

If you share the link (https://www.change.org/VertSnotDead) again, it may just be the time that a person who knows about it and wants to sign it finally does.

Ad fatigue also does exist.

Ad fatigue occurs when the same person sees the same message or request multiple times and it becomes irrelevant and ignored.

To counter this, I have changed the petition header image.

When you share the petition again, the new image will render instead of the old one.

This acts as a pattern interrupt (a pattern interrupt is something that interrupts ongoing and regular thoughts and it usually comes from something unique or different, hence the new image).

Try it here: https://www.change.org/VertSnotDead

FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE AWARE AND HAVE TAKEN ACTION

Another advantage of resharing it is that when people who have already signed the petition see it again, it reaffirms to themselves that they made a great decision because they see others who also agree with their decision.

THE TL;DR VERSION

Sharing again-and-again, is the best thing to do to get the backing we need to make this a reality.

Imagine driving past and being able to say: “Yeah I helped make that happen!”
