On 12 December 2020, I visited the Austrian Club for the Department of Infrastructure and Transport’s community information session on the Ovingham Level Crossing removal and replacement bridge.
A representative from the Department of Infrastructure and Transport explained that the Open Space under the bridge was to be managed by the City of Charles Sturt and gave me the people’s names to contact.
I contacted the "Manager of Engineering Strategy & Assets" and the "Coordinator of Open Space & Property Projects" at City of Charles Sturt and asked if they were open to hearing an addition to what was already suggested to potentially make it even better and more used by the community.
They were open to being pitched so I sent them the proposal in this partition.
I think it is a pretty compelling proposal, but to strengthen the case, I started this petition to act as an addendum to it.
My understanding is that the City of Charles Sturt will finalise its budget for the 2021/2022 financial year in the next couple of weeks, so the next step is to again pass this petition with names and comments on to those tow council representatives.
But also, and just as importantly, to the elected members of the Hindmarsh Ward (Renown Park is where the bridge will be situated) with the proposal.
I will do so this coming Friday 12 February 2021, so we have 1 week to get as many signatures as possible!
I cannot do this alone – and there are so many channels you can share the petition on.
Change.org makes it easy to share via their page buttons to:
- Facebook (your personal wall, or a skater, scooter and BMX rider group you are part of);
- Twitter;
- WhatsApp; and
- Email and target individual skater, scooter and BMX rider friends.
You can copy the link (https://www.change.org/VertSnotDead) to:
- SMS and target individual skate friends;
- Put it in your Instagram bio for 24 hours accompanied by an Instagram Story or Post;
- Put it in your TikTok bio;
- Put it in your YouTube bio;
- And so on…
Or simply tell skaters and scooter or BMX riders at the next skatepark you visit.
Every small action counts, and this can’t be done without you.
We are currently at 172 signatures, so let’s see if we can get another 28 and make it to 200 signatures by Friday…
Yours faithfully,
Orren Prunckun
