Save the Independent Restaurants!!

Save the Independent Restaurants!!
The Issue
To the City and County Officials of Broward County Florida,
I would appreciate the Commissioners to fight exceptionally hard to lift the 10pm curfew on restaurant services in Broward County. The rules and regulations currently in place such as social distancing, no bar service and 50% capacity has limited our restaurants business' dramatically. With those limitations they have not been able to find a path to breakeven and the longer that these regulations are in place it is not likely that many will see the other side of this pandemic.
The latest 10pm curfew on restaurants is the "murder weapon" that will kill many independent restaurant operators. Most dine-in restaurants are not a great model for take-out and delivery, it is more of an experience to dine-in. Most people are not ordering an good meal to eat cold and out of a box. Extending the curfew to 11 or 11:30 pm, would vastly improve our chance of survival. That additional hour or so gives us the ability to possibly get a 2nd or 3rd "turn" on the very limited, number of tables that we now have at our disposal. As of now with the 10pm curfew, If general dinner business does not even get started until 7-7:30pm. So if a restaurant is full by Covid-19 standards at 7:30, and the average dining time is 1.5 hours, they will not "turn" those tables until 9pm. Our industry needs the additional time to possibly hit the breakeven mark to alive through this. This arbitrary time of 10pm, is just that, arbitrary, with no consideration to how restaurants operate and the volume of sales needed to survive. Palm Beach County has a curfew of 11pm for restaurants. We already fight our city and county residents to stay in Broward County, every day in the BEST of times. Now with the 10pm curfew for Broward, most of the 8:30-9pm diners seem to be going where the restrictions are less imposing. Please give your favorite locally owned restaurants a chance to be here supporting and bettering our community for many years to come!!
We believe the onus is on the county and city to enforce these rules on the business' that are not complying with mandates. To arbitrarily set a 10pm curfew on restaurants is COMPLETELY WRONG. What changes, scientifically, if restaurants are open till 11pm or even 12am? If the business is operating responsibly and following guidelines its seems that it would not matter if it was a 11am or 11pm. It seems to be the narrative of the world now is to "punish all for the sins of a few". We urge all of you to lift the 10pm curfew and allow law abiding and rule following business' to continue to serve our communities and keep our people employed. It is a matter of survival.
