https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHyqBKfSPlw Teaser for the documentary "The Backlog: Lifer Doesn't Wait". Support us on Indiegogo: http://igg.me/at/cicbacklog Join the discussion at: #CICBacklog In 2013, Canadian citizens and residents sponsoring their spouses to become permanent residents had a very clear path of two stages to follow. Processing times for Stage 1 of the Canada Inland Spousal Sponsorship program were 6 months, plus 8 months for the second stage. In 2014, times for the first stage doubled to 12 moths. In 2015 they almost tripled to 17 months, and times for the second stage also increased to 10 months, for a total of 27 months of wait. During that time, the family goes through financial hardships, since the sponsored person: - Is not allowed to work. - Can't access health care. - Can't study. - Can't travel abroad. Thousands of families have to survive on a single income, and many are on the verge of bankruptcy. This documentary follows their struggles as they try to start a family in Canada, and tries to answer the question that the Government has dodged for years: why does this backlog take place to begin with? As of April 2015, it currently takes CIC 25 months to finalize spousal sponsorship applications submitted inside Canada, triple the time it took under precedent Minister of Citizenship & Immigration Canada Jason Kenney in 2012, way longer than the time it takes for Australia, NZ, USA, the UK to process the same type of applications. We shall continue to voice our opposition to a federal system that is unfair, insufficient and is placing over 10,000 Canadian families behind foreign workers.
