Is the Town Board of Monroe attempting to sell Berry Park at 121 Berry Road? Or are they selling the subdivided 20 acres that contain the Farmhouse and Stone Barn? Or are they simply selling the structure itself? Citizens are left wondering after no public explanation followed this vague published announcement (see image above) in the Times Herald Record for a January 9th Public Hearing at 7pm regarding refurbishment and resale of the Stone Barn on Town owned land on Berry Road. For those of you who signed this petition due to lack of transparency and concern for Town owned land, I feel it pertinent to turn your attention to this announcement suggesting the whole or partial sale of Berry Park with no further information listed or announced at any Town Hall Meeting. Be advised that any sale of Town owned land is subject to public referendum—meaning the people have the power to put this decision to a vote if properly petitioned.
Since we last spoke, my efforts have been focused on the group Preserve Monroe— the official group name chosen to fight against the Rye Hill Development (a 491 unit apartment complex being built on Rye Hill Road) and other preservation concerns for our community, such as the zoning that allows overdevelopment in our area. Please join us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/groups/PreserveMonroe to follow any information we gain regarding the potential sale of Berry Park or the Stone Barn itself, which at this point are municipally owned and part of the Boy Scout Jamboree park grounds, scenic hiking trails, and natural wilderness…as well as in the immediate watershed of Mombasha Lake— our drinking source for the Village and parts of the Town. This property also contains a pond, river, and wetlands some which connect directly with Mombasha Lake.
If you are unable to connect via Facebook, please email PreserveMonroeNY@gmail.com to be signed up via email which receives periodic notices of important public hearings or updates such as this.
