Thanks for getting us a meeting with Irvine City Councilman Michael Carroll!

Update: Just got out of a meeting with Irvine City Councilman Michael Carroll.  He was eager to learn about Community Choice Energy and said that he wanted to meet with us in large part because of all the people he’s heard from through this petition(!).

Some key facts we discussed that Councilman Carroll seemed particularly interested in:

  • If Irvine adopts CCE, it will be easier for other OC cities to follow our example and do the same.
  • Corporate divestment from fossil fuels and switching to sustainable energy is a major economic trend.
  • CCE could make Irvine more disaster-ready by funding electricity micro-grids that could ensure continuous service for hospitals or whole communities during wildfires or other outages.
  • SoCal Edison produces very little of the electricity it sells - it’s basically a middle man. Irvine could save Irvine families and businesses $7.7 million a year by buying electricity for itself.
  • CCE could allow Irvine to provide electricity discounts to the elderly and other residents in financial need.

Could you please share this petition with five friends (extra credit if they live in Irvine) so we can continue to show Councilmember Carroll and others that we want CCE ASAP? Thank you for making a difference on climate and consumer choice in Irvine.
