Protect MetroHealth: The Board of Trustees Must Resign!

The Issue

On November 21, 2022, The MetroHealth System Board of Trustees threw the hospital and the community into complete chaos.

They tarnished the stellar reputation of a great civic leader (one month before his retirement) and one of Cleveland’s key institutions.

Boutros Impact was huge, Dr. Akram Boutros - A Timeline, and MetroHealth’s Wildly Successful Innovator

Since then, they have taken every opportunity to make a mockery of the institution they are supposed to serve. They have been slow to respond to records requests and redacted important parts of their investigations.

MetroHealth Has a Duty to Taxpayers, and Hospital Has not Provided Records

Serious allegations have been made against both the Board Chair (Vanessa Whiting) and the Vice Chair (J.B. Silvers) as well as the full Board of Trustees, that they have violated Ohio’s Sunshine Laws and retaliated against Dr. Boutros for reporting his concerns about those violations.

It is clear that the Board is trying to deflect from their negligence by saying they didn’t know what was going on at the health system.

We are not buying it.

MetroHealth board member Defends Dr. Boutros.

It seems that there are many of us who think this is about the Board’s negligence.

MetroHealth Board Should Resign and MetroHealth Board Admits Negligence.

The MetroHealth Board should be held accountable for their negligence, their lack of transparency, and their vindictive actions against Dr. Boutros.

We call on the entire board of trustees to resign and for County Executive Chris Ronayne, Council President Pernel Jones, and Council Members Yvonne Conwell, Michael Gallagher, Patrick Kelly, Dale Miller, Sunny Simon, Cheryl Stevens, Jack Schron, Martin Sweeney, Scott Tuma, and Meredith Turner to nominate a new Board for MetroHealth.

Signed,

Friends and Citizens of Cuyahoga County
