To apologise for attacking Dr. Matt Taylor

The Issue

Chris Plante from the Verge recently released an article titled:

"I don't care if you landed a spacecraft on a comet, your shirt is sexist and ostracizing"

This article can be credited as one of the main reasons that caused the villanizing of Dr. Matt Taylor. In the article, the author accuses him of misogyny and of perpetuating an anti-woman stance in scientific field. Both unfair attacks on a man who deserved praise, not criticism.

Dr. Matt Taylor is part of the team which led the Rosetta Mission into success, by landing the Probe Philae on the surface the comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko.

During this mission, Matt Taylor was asked to give an update on the current status of the mission before a TV camera. As someone who clearly has big interest in science, pioneering space travel by landing on a comet, something never done before, clearly made the Doctor enthusiastic, and it wouldn't be much of a stretch to say that the day Philae landed on the comet was the happiest day of his life.

But to a certain group of people, that didn't matter. Matt Taylor had recently received a shirt as a birthday gift from a female friend of his with artistic talent, who created the shirt herself. To some people, the man mattered more than the mission, and the shirt mattered more than the man.

Feminists all over the net found various ways to insult this pioneer of space travel, using catch-phrases and excuses which they themselves would scorn in any other given situation. This online bullying culminated with Dr. Matt Taylor apologizing in front of video cameras, crying as he did so.

That's right, a man who has pioneered space travel and done things that would've seemed like science-fiction fifty years ago, was forced to stand up an apologise while crying, all because feminists chose to get offended by a shirt he was wearing.

If you feel this is unfair, I'd like to encourage you to sign this petition, to show the people who encouraged this bullying of a great scientist, that we think they should be ashamed, and to show Matt that we support him.
