Children with Diabetes must get low cost CGM devices

4,706

The Issue

When a child is diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, the care-givers in the family have to learn how to track sugar levels, choose 'safe' foods, balance insulin dosage & monitor the child constantly.

Without a CGM (constant glucose monitoring) Device, the family live in fear of high and low sugar emergencies.

The child is at risk of emergency hospital admission - too much insulin can lead to a coma. On the other side - a lack of insulin can be fatal.

Diabetes type 1 cannot be prevented or cured and no child should have to live with this fear!

The Dept of Health must prioritise Diabetes as a dangerous chronic health condition and make CGM devices available at Public Clinics and Hospitals, preferably given out for free to every diagnosed type 1 diabetic patient for the first 2 months of treatment.
