Childcare Crisis: Parents Deserve Better. We Need Change—Now
The Issue
We’re reaching out today, not just as business owners, but as people who care deeply about the future of our children—and your children. As the founders of a newly established childcare centre in Aurora, we’re seeing the effects of the childcare crisis firsthand. Every single day, we receive calls, messages, and emails from parents who are desperate for affordable childcare. Parents who are overwhelmed, stressed, and frustrated by the lack of options.
Our centre has spaces available for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers—but there’s one huge problem: We don’t have CWELCC funding. The Ministry of Education has told us that Aurora is not a priority neighborhood for the program. How can that be? With a growing waiting list of parents, some calling from 30 km away, desperate for a spot—how are we not a priority?
This isn’t just about us. This is about parents everywhere. We know parents who can’t go back to work, who are barely getting by, and who can’t find a single affordable childcare option in our community. And it’s not just a few families—it's hundreds of families. We have a binder full of parents waiting for a spot in our centre. They were promised affordable, accessible childcare by the government. And yet, we’re being told nothing can be done. This is simply not okay.
The term "Canada-Wide" should mean exactly that—all Canadian children should have access to affordable, quality child care. But that’s not the reality. Smaller towns and growing communities like Aurora are being left behind. We are fighting every day to meet the needs of families, but the lack of funding and support from the government is standing in our way.
Here’s a shocking reality: Canada ranks 30th out of 41 high and middle-income countries when it comes to access to early childhood education (UNICEF). We’re one of the wealthiest countries in the world, but our children are being left behind. If we want our children to have the best start in life, we need action—now.
This isn’t just a childcare issue. This is a human issue. This is about families trying to work, trying to make a living, trying to care for their kids in the best way they can. We need change. We need better support for our kids. Because, as it stands, they’re not getting the care they deserve.
We’re asking all of you—parents, grandparents, future parents, teenagers, neighbors—please, raise your voice with us. Sign the petition. Let’s make sure our children, and all children, have the opportunity to grow up in a country where they’re cared for, educated, and supported—no matter where they live.
This isn’t just about childcare. This is about a future for our kids—and it starts today.
