"Child Support Income Should Not Affect S.S.I. Monthly Amount For Disabled Parents"

The Issue

S.S.I. Guidelines: 'Child Support Income affects the monthly amount a person receives monthly from Social Security." It goes against the amount a person would receive from Social Security. For instance, I receive $783.00 per month from S.S.I. for my disabilities; However, because I receive $1000.00 a month in Child Support for 2 of my 3 children, The Social Security Administration counts the Child Support as Income coming in, and it drastically affects the amount I receive from Social Security. Leaving me with a mere $53.00 from Social Security for my monthly benefit amount, that wouldn't even cover gas for the month to and from my Dr. Appointments, I need to attend for my disabilities. "I do not feel it is right to count the child support 'That is to go toward the childs' needs each month', (not the parents)" How is it okay for child support to count against mine or anyone else's S.S.I. monthly benefit amount whatsoever? In my opinion SSI should be there to support the disabled adult, and the child support should be there to support the child or children I feel they should be counted as two separates and not against each other or be affected in one way or the other, they are for two separates of people for two separate reasons. It doesn't make sense to myself or many othersI have spoken with regarding this issue. For instance: If and when there is a time that I receive child support for my third child what happens to my SSI then? Am I then kicked off of SSI because the above the income amounts coming in each month is greater? Then what is to be done when they turn 18 and I am still disabled and I no longer receive child support, how am I going to support myself as an individual in some way or another or have an income coming in for my needs. Using my childrens'  " Child Support" for my needs that just seems unruly isn't the idea to financially stabilize somebody and bring them above the poverty level or to support them to be able to live in this world at somepoint have a roof over their head and the ability to function in society? I feel that one must have a job or be on some sort of disability plan especially when one is unable to work whatsoever due to any reason necessary in the guidelines. it just makes more sense to me that this rule or law or guideline be changed because it is not for right for a parent to live off of their child's child support and that is how I feel. I probably would have never applied for Social Security, I don't think, if it weren't for my kids coming into my own custody. I feel there is more of a need for me and for my children financially now thar there are 4 of us  in the household considering the fact would $1000.00 is all the money received each month. Not even food stamps count child support as income coming in. I would like to see our little family come up in society at least a little bit more above the poverty level that we have been living in for the past few years and I feel anyone in the same situation would feel the same as I do in some way or another. It would give us and others more opportunities in life to venture other avenues in life. I'd like to possibly get into another and more safer vehicle than what we have now. It would give us the opportunity ablility to file bankruptcy on the many hospital bills due to my disabilities, and be able to hopefully build credit and buy a home someday. I have been waiting over three years for my disability to come through finally it is here and all the back pay I can't even pay off debt or let alone the attorney who handled my case because the monthly amount is being or has been gone against from receiving child support in the first place. I feel that would be really cool if I could get all the back pay that I was expecting at the amount of 783 a month or what have you either way I just feel this law should be changed one way or another and put in the guidelines, that child support does not count against one's income, coming in from Social Security. When I spoke to the lady and done my review she had told me that the child support, it didn't count against my social security as income coming in because it was for the children. So why is it counting now, I have talked to Social Security and I have talked to two separate attorneys and I don't understand how any of this makes sense please can we work on this together? Bring a few others up from  the poverty level, that they may or may not be living in. Just due to the fact that they have children and child support coming in. Maybe I could change it for the better for someone else in the future even if I am not awarded all my back pay that I felt I was deserving of having. I would appreciate at least the ability to have achieved changing the system for the better and for the future of others who are in the same situation as I am. Even if it isn't much of a change I and many others I have shared my situation with agree it would be for the better
