It is with a heavy heart that I write this. We have been told that our beloved K-9 Abal has been reassigned to another handler. This handler who just last night accidentally shot a fellow officer with a taser! This news brings with it such sadness, fear and confusion for us. I can only imagine that Abal is wondering what happened to us. I worry for his safety with a handler that can accidentally tase a fellow officer. I am confused how the Septa Board, and even the Mayor could turn a blind eye to what is going on. We still have no answers as to why my husband was transferred! My husband had been in K-9 for at 13 years, our first K-9 Zora was retired to us. It really just makes no sense why this is happening. I am saddened to know that this officer would turn his back on his brother in blue! Other officers in the department stated they would never take Abal, saying he is Rich’s dog. Yet, this officer doesn’t seem to understand the importance of the brotherhood, and that we are all family. That to me is really sad. We have only just begun to fight for Abal, his safety and his return home to his family! I am humbled by the amount of support and love that has been shown to us. I am also, thankful to those of you who have offered to buy or donate K-9’s to the Chief in return for Abal! Please join me in telling Chief Nestel, Septa, and Mayor Jim Kenney to bring Abal home!
